Longtime member of the automotive industry owned Interstate Batteries of Columbia River
BAKERSFIELD, California (March 18, 2026) – The West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame is proud to announce that Kevin Haugen, a retired business owner and longtime leader in the automotive industry, is joining its Board of Directors.
Originally from Bremerton, Washington, Haugen (pronounced how-gun) now splits his time between Camas, Washington and Gilbert, Arizona.
“We are very fortunate to have Kevin Haugen join our board,” said Ken Clapp, Chairman and CEO of the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame. “After numerous meetings with Kevin, he and I realized his addition to the team would cover a void we’ve had in the Pacific Northwest for many years. His enthusiasm and personality will only enhance our overall growth.”
Haugen began his career at age 18 working in the automotive industry at several auto parts stores. He later spent 10 years with Interstate Batteries of Seattle, distributing batteries throughout the Olympic Peninsula and gaining valuable hands-on industry experience.
Kevin and his wife Jennie went on to own and operate Interstate Batteries of Columbia River for 25 years, building a highly successful regional business serving Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon. During that time, Kevin developed long-standing relationships across the automotive and commercial communities while leading the company’s continued growth.
In 2021, Kevin and Jennie retired and sold the business to two longtime employees who continue to operate and grow the company today—one of Kevin’s proudest legacy accomplishments.
Following retirement, Kevin pursued aviation and earned his private pilot certification in 2023. He also enjoys riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, attending NASCAR races, and the friendships he has built through Interstate Batteries’ partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing.
From 2016 to 2020, Kevin served on the board of Professional Captive Management, LLC, an Oregon-based company specializing in the formation and management of closely held insurance companies. He is also active in his local community and currently pursuing a role on the HOA board in his Arizona neighborhood.
